Rides

The UNI Cycling Club offers several different rides on any given week during the ride season. Our main periods of riding are from the end of Spring Break to the end of the spring semester, and from the beginning of the fall semester to mid November, or the first snowfall. During the off-season, we stick indoors and watch movies, learn bike skills and prepare for the upcoming season.

Typically, weekend ride routes/destinations are determined roughly a week in advance. We try to structure rides so that a tailwind is prevalent on the return route.  Weekday rides routes are determined by those who show up to ride.

In most cases, we ride when students feel like riding, but generally we try to have rides at the follow times:

  • Wednesdays and Fridays @ 4:00 P.M.
  • Saturdays at 3:00 P.M.
During the cold season, we meet inside the Wellness & Recreation Center and partake in some indoor spin cycling or other fitness activities. Then we meet Wednesdays, Fridays & Sundays at 4:00 p.m.

There may be other rides hosted by specific parts of the team. Check our Facebook page for more specifics.

All rides start from the Maucker Union Fountain Plaza unless otherwise directed, Check our Facebook page for any last minute changes or cancellations.

We try to organize rides in a manner that benefits everyone. To this effect, we encourage a "no rider left behind" policy on weekend rides. This policy is not mandated, as there are likely to be students who may need to leave the group at any given time for any on-campus commitments or other events.

When riding with us, it is recommend that you bring along the following items:
  1. A tire tube
  2. Money and ID card
  3. A miniature pump
  4. Bike all-in-one tool
  5. Cell phone
  6. Plenty of water, maybe a snack or two
This is an incomplete list, and some riders may already have some of the following items. In the case of a  flat and there is no spare available, we'll try to arrange for a sag wagon pick-up. In most cases, some rides can rocket back to campus if they need to rent a campus vehicle to pick you up, but it could be a long wait!

Rides are automatically cancelled if any of the following elements are present one hour before start time:
  • Rain, freezing rain, sleet or snow
  • Thunder and/or lightning
  • A heat index/temperature of 100 degrees or higher
  • A wind chill/temperature of 32 or below
  • Air stagnation warning
